GrowNYC’s Beginner Farmers’ Conference at USA Agro Farm

Updated: Oct 31, 2022

USA Agro Farm hosted New York City’s prominent environmental organization, GrowNYC’s Beginner Farmers’ Conference 2022 at its Newton, New Jersey farm location. The conference focused on USDA’s FSA and NRCS conservation programs and how they can benefit beginning farmers including how Foodshed Alliance’s conservation practices are helping fledgling USA Agro Farm to grow and thrive.

The event was attended by more than two dozen participants from stakeholders and beginner farmers from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Introduction was presented by GrowNYC’s Assistant Director, Regional Agriculture, Tracy Lerman and Nicole Yeo-Solano. The guest speakers were from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)’s Conservationist Kimberly Dalton, USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA)’s County Executive Director Kristen Lake; Foodshed Alliance’s Sustainable Agriculture Enterprise (SAgE) Program Manager Eric Derby and USA Agro Farm’s Pradeep Thapa.

GrowNYC has played a pivotal role in helping New York City transform over the past five decades into one of the most livable cities in the world. Since our founding in 1970, it’s grown to be the largest and most established environmental organization in NYC, providing education, information, programs and other resources to make it easier for New Yorkers to flourish.

GrowNYC helps 3 million New Yorkers annually by providing essential services—access to locally grown food, community and school gardens, recycling and waste reduction tools, and more—that enable healthy and sustainable living.

Foodshed Alliance is pioneering in food security in the local communities. It works to strengthen sustainable farming, increase access to local, healthy food, and protect the environment for the communities. The Foodshed Alliance works in Sussex, Warren, Morris, Passaic, Bergen, Essex and Hudson counties. It owns preserved farmland in Sussex County where it leases 66 acres to nine sustainable farm businesses under Sustainable Agriculture Enterprise (SAgE) land-access program that provides affordable long-term access to preserved farmland.

USA Agro Farm aims to become integral part of sustainable organic farming in the United States. Our motto is, “Organic, Sustainable and Green”. We are committed to maintain permaculture so that our earth can sustain for future generations.
