Book review: नेपाल र नेपालीलाई औधी माया गर्ने अमेरिकी राजदूत स्कट डेलिसी (Scott DeLisi) मुस्तांगको ट्रेकमा जाँदा बाटामा भेटेको भोटे कुकुर (Tibetan Mastiff) ‘लो खी’ जसलाई गोदलिएर (अपनाएर) उनले काठमाण्डू ल्याए र पछि अमेरिकासमेत लिएर आए, मुस्तांग यात्रामा भेट्दाको मन छुने कहानी लेखिएको सचित्र किताब ‘The Ambassador's Dog’ (राजदूतको कुकुर) भर्खरै बजारमा उपलब्ध भएको छ। मैले पनि भर्खरै प्राप्त गरें। पढ्दै जाँदा धेरै पटक भावुक बनेर रोएँ।पुरा किताब पढ्न एक घण्टा पनि लाग्दैन तर यदि तपाई बाल्यकालमा कुकुरसंग हुर्किनु भएको छ या जीवनकालमा मान्छेको सबैभन्दा विश्वासपात्र कुकुर पाल्नु भएकोछ भने यो पुस्तकले तपाईंको दिल छुनेछ, आँखा रसाउने छन् र तपाईले हुर्काएको कुकुरलाई अझ धेरै माया गर्नु हुनेछ। सुपरिचित चित्रकार जेन लिलियन भान्सको सुन्दर चित्रहरूले राजदूत डेलिसीले लेखेको मन छुने कथालाई थप सजिव बनाएको छ र मुस्तांगे साँस्कृतिक जनजीवनलाई आत्मसात गरेकोछ।

मलाई थाहा छैन, यो पुस्तक मैले कति पटक दोहोर्याएर पढ्नेछु। मेरो मन यि हरफहरूले खुब छोयो, -“That is what the puppy asked the winds. And the winds heard the pup’s wish, and they carried his hopes and dreams down the mountains, through the forests, and over the rivers that flowed across the land. The wind carried the puppy’s dreams to Kathmandu, the biggest city in Nepal. They carried his dreams to a man who felt the breeze brush his face and stir his soul with an unexpected lodging. राजदूत डेलिसी र उनको भोटे कुकुरको यो सुन्दर कथाले यि दुईको संयोगवशको भेट, गाढा मित्रता र गोद लिएपछि काठमाण्डूसम्मको यात्राको कहानीलाई समेटेको छ तर ‘लो खी’ को काठमाण्डू वसाई, राजदूत डेलिसी अवकासपछि अमेरिकाको यात्रा र ‘लो खी’ को अमेरिकी जीवनचर्या बारे दोश्रो पुस्तक लेखेर प्रकासन गरेमा पाठकको लागि उत्तिकै रुचिकर हुने थियो।

म पनि बालक छँदा हाम्रो घरको भोटे कुकुर ‘डाईमण्ड’ संग हुर्केको हूँ। हाम्री कान्छी आमाको म जेठो छोरो अनि गाउँको पुच्छारमा एक्लो घर। यिनै भोटे कुकुर डाईमण्ड दाई मेरा असली साथी थिए।यिनको घोंडा चढेर म अनेक धुलौटे खेल खेलेको र अनेकौं बाल महायुद्धहरू जितेको छु। गत साल फरवरीमा पचासौं वर्षे जन्मदिन हाम्री ८६ वर्षीय आमाको काखमा मनाउन गाउँ जाँदा भाई खड्गले दुईटा काले कुकुर (एउटा भोटे कुकुर) पाल्न ल्याएकारै’छन्। म त यि दुई भुन्टेहरूलाई देख्ने बित्तिकै भुतुक्कै भएँ। र, म फेरी मेरो ४० वर्ष अघिको बाल्यकालको यादमा डुब्न पुगें। अहिले एम्बासाडर डेलिसीले आफूले मुस्तांगको बाटामा भेटेको भोटे र गोदलिएको कुकुरबारे लेखेको किताबले म फेरी मेरो भोटे कुकुर दाई डाईमण्डको यादमा हराएकोछु।
